Czech mulled wine

When winter and Christmas come to the city, mulled wine you’ll find at every outdoor stall. But homemade is always better and also easy to make. Some people could say the choice of wine doesn’t matter, you can pick the cheapest one, it will be cooked anyway. But the opposite is true. Use a good wine.

Ingredients

  • 1 l red wine
  • 100 ml brandy or cognac
  • 120 g sugar
  • teaspoon of ginger
  • half teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1 cinnamon
  • 2 star anise
  • 8 cloves
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • 100 ml water

Cut the lemon and orange into slices. Put everything except wine and brandy into the pot and warm up until the sugar melts. Then add the wine and warm up together, but not start boiling, to keep the alcohol in. When it’s hot turn off the stove and add brandy or cognac. Drink hot.
